"I’ve scheduled my life around Elizabeth’s Total Body Conditioning class and her Post-Partum Pilates classes! Her classes are always fun, but tough. I know I will always be challenged and the hard work pays off. I have Elizabeth to thank for the envious looks I got during both my pregnancies and after giving birth—nobody can believe what great shape I’m in!" -- Sally

My Approach to FitnessI have been dancing since I could walk. I took ballet lessons very early in my life. I am fortunate to have worked with many talented dancers and teachers. I studied at the New York School of Ballet for many years. I went on to major in dance at Hunter College. My teachers were trained in various movement modalities, including the Alexander Technique. My training had a strong emphasis on posture and body alignment. My anatomy and kinesiology professor always said…… “If you have a problem with one toe, you have an entire body alignment problem”. She always pointed out the importance of the chain reaction of body alignment. When one link in the chain is disrupted, movement patterns can become inefficient and off balance. Our bodies compensate in ways that may cause injury.
Having been in the fitness industry for so many years, I have observed the evolution of fitness. The fads have come and gone, but human movement and body mechanics have not evolved quite as quickly as the fitness fads. The basic principles of safe, mindful and enjoyable exercise are still the gold standard. My favorite workouts include the use of a mat and one’s own body weight. I introduce certain tools such as free weights, a physio-band, a physio-ball and a bosu when appropriate, but the workouts I design are generally 100% portable, requiring minimal if any equipment. My workouts can be done virtually ANYWHERE, which reduces the number of creative excuses not to exercise! The workouts I design have a focus on core strength. I believe it is important to have strong abdominals in order to protect the back. I advocate a blend of strength training, cardio fitness, flexibility and balance training. Each individual has different needs and my exercise program takes into consideration those individual concerns. I work with each person to create a program that works for that unique individual’s body, mind and lifestyle. I believe in being fit for life. Although not everyone enters the world of exercise happily, I try to help each client find personal joy in their unique fitness journey. My mission is to help you incorporate a healthy fitness routine into your life so that you can live as successfully as possible over the span of an entire lifetime. |
